Request Audio Recording

HOW DO I REQUEST AN AUDIO RECORDING? To request a copy of a digital audio recording of a Court proceeding, simply complete the secure online order form on the right and submit the order.  During the process of  your first order, you will create a user account in TheRecordXchange.  You will be asked to make a payment via credit card.  Digital audio recordings will be made available for streaming directly from your order within your online account. Before submitting your request, you must agree to the Court's terms and conditions for receiving audio recordings. You can click here to review the Terms and Conditions.

Please Note: Digital audio recordings may not be available for all Court proceedings.  Once an order is submitted, the Circuit Court for Charles County Court Reporting Coordinator will determine if the ordered audio is available.   If ordered audio is not available, a refund will be applied.

IS A VIDEO RECORDING AVAILABLE? No.  The Court recording system records audio only; no video is captured.

WHAT IS THE COST FOR AN AUDIO RECORDING? Audio recordings are $25.00 per hearing date. The Court must receive payment in full before processing your order. You can pay with a credit or debit card. If you need to make other payment arrangements, you can select the blue circle at the bottom right the screen to get help.  If the audio requested covers multiple recording dates, there will be a $25 fee for each recording date requested.

CAN I USE THE AUDIO RECORDING AS THE OFFICIAL COURT RECORD? No, copies of audio recordings may not be used as the official Court record in the place of a written transcript.  Written transcripts cannot be produced using the audio provided from an audio recording request.  Only written transcripts prepared and certified by the Court are deemed official and can be admitted as evidence.  Certified transcripts can also be requested from this site. 

Digital audio recordings are made from the original master recordings of a Court proceedings and are available for verification of testimony only.  They are not certified for Court use and may not be used as the official Court record in place of an official transcript.   

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY AUDIO RECORDING IS AVAILABLE? 

You will have access to your request on this site once you submission is successful.  You will receive an email notification when the audio recording is available and the email will contain a link to bring you back to your request. The Court does not guarantee that recordings are available for all proceedings requested.  If a recording is available and you are authorized to receive it, it will be made available to you in streaming format.
